This week we hosted Day Camp with Living Water Ministries, so our Gospel lesson came from the camp program rather than from the lectionary. In today's sermon we get to hear from a set of kids who attended day camp this week. What did they enjoy? What did they learn? Is this what the reign of God looks like?

Our Acts sermon series continues with Paul in Corinth, struggling to share the good news about Jesus until he receives a gospel message himself. I spent this week at Living Water Ministries camp for the first time with LCS kids. A challenging week of camp is the perfect opportunity for the Holy Spirit to transform lives and institutions to share the gospel and direct us toward God's reign on earth.

Have I ever told you about my time working at camp? I feel like I mention it often enough, ticking it off the list of experiences that give me perspective in serving this congregation as pastor. Sometimes I use it as a qualification, as if working five summers at camp gives me credibility on matters of church, children, or whatever else is convenient at that time.

The truth is that the only qualification I received in working at camp is an experience of the transformational power of the Holy Spirit. I know the gospel message of God’s love for us in Jesus Christ changes lives, because at camp it happened to me.
