Sermon Audio 2/10/2013

Luke 9:28-36

Transfiguration, Lectionary Year C

In Luke's Gospel, Jesus was praying when he was transfigured. Can prayer transfigure us as well?

In this sermon I reference this blog post by my friend Rev. Jason Chesnut.

These two articles by Rev. David Lose were also helpful in bringing my thoughts together. The text of the Mary Oliver poem "Praying" was posted in the comments on the second of these articles, but I'll re-post it here as well.

It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.
