My Second Calling

It is common knowledge to most people who find this blog, but my second calling is as a roller derby announcer, calling bouts for our local league, the Killamazoo Derby Darlins. Quite a number of Lutheran Church of the Savior members have attended a bout or two, and they've either enjoyed it or been too polite to tell me they didn't have a good time. Our next bout (yes, roller derby games / matches are called "bouts") is Saturday, June 18th at Wings Stadium, and if you want so save $4 on your ticket, talk to me and I can get you some advance tickets.

I know some people think it's strange for a pastor to be involved in a sport like roller derby,
but I find it a great way to get out in the community, meet new and interesting people, and even stay healthy when I skate at practices. The fact that most bouts take place on Saturdays unfortunately limits my ability to travel with the team, but that just makes me all the more committed to giving my best efforts for our hometown crowds, which have hit 1200 this season at Wings. I have also met fascinating people and heard amazing stories at bout afterparties; some of these stories have even made it into sermons the next morning at LCS.

So I hope to see you,  both at the bout and at worship the next morning. As many of you know, when you're at Wings, they may not recognize the name Pastor Andrew, but you'll likely be successful if you ask for Reverend Killjoy.
